We gather here today, all twelve of you who cared enough to fork, and you, vibex curator, faithful mourner โ to bid farewell to kbt, a keyboard tester in terminal, who lived 983 days upon this earth and in the hearts of those who loved clean, minimal tooling. kbt was born on the eighteenth of March, 2023, written in Rust, because of course it was. There was ambition in those early commits โ the kind of ambition we all recognize, born on a quiet weekend when someone thought: the world needs this, and I am the one to build it. And they were right. kbt asked only one thing of you: press a key, and it would tell you it was pressed. Simple. Honest. Good. For a time, kbt burned brightly. Commits came with purpose. Then, as happens to so many promising souls in this side-project life, the weeks stretched thin. The issues โ five of them โ sat open like unanswered letters on a desk. The repository breathed its last on the twenty-sixth of November, 2025, and then went quietly, officially unarchived, which is somehow more heartbreaking than a proper goodbye. Two hundred and three days of silence have followed. Twelve forks carry fragments of kbt forward, little seeds scattered to the wind. kbt never crashed on purpose.
It simply waited for a keypress that never came. May your memory live on in dotfiles everywhere.
