Friends, stargazers, and the twenty-eight brave souls who forked and carried pieces of ipfs-rpi into their own experiments โ we gather here today to remember a small but sincere life. ipfs-rpi was born on a warm August evening in 2016, arriving into a world enchanted by the dream of a distributed web and the humble Raspberry Pi. Written in Shell, practical and unpretentious, it asked only one thing: let me help your little ARM board join something bigger than itself. And for a time, it did exactly that. There were good years. Commits flowed. Issues were answered. The README glowed with purpose. Somewhere, on a shelf or a shoebox server rack, tiny computers hummed because of what ipfs-rpi made possible. But then, as happens with so many side projects born from a beautiful weekend of inspiration, the commits slowed to a trickle, then to silence. Two issues remained open, patient as saints, never to receive a reply. November the third, 2023 โ that was the last thing it ever said. Nine hundred and forty-four days of quiet have followed. The description itself bears witness, written in the honest, slightly defeated font of a maintainer who moved on: ABANDONWARE. At least it was named truthfully. Not every project receives that grace. It was never officially archived.
Perhaps that is its own kind of mercy โ the door left unlocked, just in case. May your distributed dreams find a node that never goes offline.
