Dear vibex curator, and all who clicked that star in the small hours of the night, We are gathered here today to remember ToolGen, born on the fourth of October, 2024, into a world hungry for unified tool retrieval and calling via generation. ToolGen arrived with purpose — an ICLR 2025 paper to its name before it had even learned to walk. Not many side projects can say that. Most of us are still debugging hello world. For 172 days, ToolGen burned with the particular intensity of academic ambition. There were commits, there were requirements files, there were README sections that almost explained everything. Sixteen souls cared enough to fork it, to carry pieces of it into their own repositories, their own half-finished dreams. That is not nothing. That is, in fact, rather beautiful. But then March 26th, 2025 arrived, and ToolGen pushed its last commit into the void. One issue remains open, unanswered, a quiet knock on a door no one is coming to open. The repository breathes still, unarchived, technically alive in the way a stopped clock is technically present in the room. 492 days of silence. The Python files sit patient and still, like notes left on a kitchen table, waiting for someone who has already moved on. ToolGen did not fail.
