We gather here today, vibex curator, sole mourner in this digital nave, to bid farewell to cssFilters โ a soul who burned with the warm glow of an Instagram Valencia filter and faded just as softly into the background. cssFilters came into this world on a November morning in 2015, born of enthusiasm and the audacious belief that CSS could make photographs beautiful. And it could. Oh, it could. A playground of custom filters, React-powered and full of possibility โ cssFilters was the kind of project you built on a weekend and dreamed about on a Monday. There were good years. Commits flew in like compliments. Fifty souls loved the project enough to fork it, to carry pieces of it into their own work, their own dreams. Sixteen open issues remain unanswered still โ prayers left on the altar, each one a whispered hope that someone might return. But side projects are mortal creatures. Life grows louder. New frameworks arrive like seasons. And so the commits thinned, the months grew quiet, until cssFilters pushed its final line of code on a June day in 2022 and simply... stopped. Not archived. Not deleted. Just still. A 2,401-day life followed by 1,442 days of silence that no one has yet had the heart to make official. cssFilters did not die angry.
It died filtered โ a little warm, a little soft around the edges, exactly as it was designed to make everything else appear. May your styles cascade eternally.
